On March 1st, employees voted to approve an agreement between Grand Central Bakery and Bakers, Confectionary, Tobacco Workers & Grain Millers Local 114, the union that represents 31 bread bakers and dishwashers at the bread production facility in Northwest Portland.
Grand Central Bakery currently has 320 employees in Seattle and Portland. The union does not cover Grand Central’s chain of cafes, its Seattle bread production facility, or any Portland employees other than the bread bakers and dishwashers.
“We have a track record of putting employees first, providing great wages with regular annual increases and improving our benefits every year,” said Claire Randall, Grand Central Bakery’s CEO. “Now that the contract is ratified, I’m happy to return my full attention to focusing on our mission and how best to support all Grand Central Bakery employees, our customers and community during a pandemic.”
